Festival of Remembrance takes place this weekend
Published: Wednesday 28 October 2026
Everyone across South Lanarkshire is invited to the Festival of Remembrance taking place at Hamilton Town House.
The free event takes place from 2.30pm to 4pm on Sunday 1 November and remembers those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defending their country.
Larkhall Youth Pipe Band will be playing as people arrive, and there will be welcomes from the council’s Veteran’s Champion, Councillor Mark Horsham, Provost Bert Thomson and Lord Lieutenant for Lanarkshire Lady Susan Haughey.
Beckford Primary School, South Lanarkshire Wee Big Schools Band and Hamilton College will also be performing pieces of music, and the service will be led by Reverend Ross Blackman, Reverend Joanne Hood and Father Matthew Little. The Salvation Army bugler will play the Last Post and Reveille.
Provost Thomson said: “The Festival of Remembrance is always a very poignant and emotional service, and I hope as many people as possible will join us to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
“Our debt to these brave men and women can never be repaid, but every year we stop to pay tribute and honour the fallen, their families and their comrades in arms who lived to tell the tale.
“We will remember them.”
